If a stereotypical classroom environment is preferred, one should definitely consider taking night classes at a local university or college. Many schools offer certain classes after normal working hours, allowing part-time students and adults to receive several credits within a short period of time. Because night classes are taught by professors that are physically present to instruct and answer any questions, they often are preferable to online classes. This physical availability of a professor within the classroom, however, is also what makes night classes more expensive than their technologically advanced counterparts.
Online classes are also exceedingly popular within the part-time and adult student population. Online courses can be taken during any time of the day, allowing one to hold a job while earning credits. These classes also can be taken from home, making them incredibly convenient. Because a professor does not need to be present during online classes, they tend to be significantly less expensive than night classes. However, one often does not learn the material as quickly because of this absence of an instructor.
It may seem like taking college classes as an adult is more trouble than it’s worth, the importance of adult education has increased drastically within the past decade because of America’s declining economy and less job opportunities. Credit hours can be expensive, with a bachelor’s degree costing anywhere from $15,000 to $100,000. Fortunately, there are many scholarships, grants and financial aid that can be had by adult students.

If one has completed any amount of college in the past and received a decent grade point average, some schools will award a hefty scholarship in recognition of these good grades.
Through grants, scholarships and federal financial aid, one can expect to only pay between 10 and 40 percent of their total tuition costs. The amounts will vary wildly, and certain factors like marriage, children and income will change the amount of aid one receives from school and from the government.
In the United States, jobs are becoming harder to find with each passing day, and an increasing number of people are being laid off from their jobs, forcing up the percentage of unemployed citizens.
